Stop Watching Netflix Alone. Start Watching Together with Scener.

It’s 3 am, and you’re watching your 17th episode of ‘The Office’ in a row. Michael says something especially ludicrous, and you turn to your friend to laugh together. Oh, wait – that’s right. Your friend is at their own house, binging through their own Office marathon.

You’re watching Netflix. Your friends are watching Netflix. You should be watching Netflix with your friends. Now you can watch Netflix in real-time with anyone, anytime, anywhere using Scener.

Our exciting new platform allows you to host video chats with up to four of your friends on top of Netflix, so you can experience your favorite shows and movies together, wherever. The cure to loneliness is here (Patent-Pending. Product not evaluated by the FDA).

To get started, go to Scener and install the Chrome extension, pick something to watch on Netflix, and invite your friends to join your “scene”. If you’re having trouble deciding what to watch, why don’t you do what you always do, and re-watch ‘The Office’ for the 8 millionth time!

Because Scener is a brand new way to watch Netflix with your friends, we’re continually looking for ways to improve and would love your feedback. You can also say “hi” and send any questions to hello@scener.tv. Honestly, please e-mail us. Our customer support person gets super lonely.

Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Scener Beta:

Is it free?
Yes! Scener is totally free. You could even say it is more than free, because it pays you in a surplus of fun that you may not be able to contain.

How do I get it?
Go to Scenerand follow the instructions.

What equipment do I need?
To watch with friends on Scener, you’ll need a laptop, headphones, and some fun friends to share your favorite shows with. Boring friends are also compatible, but fun friends are highly recommended.

What are the software requirements?
With the proper equipment in hand, you’ll need a Netflix subscription and the Google Chrome web browser. If you’re still using Internet Explorer, then it’s time to join the rest of us in the present.

What's a Scener Scene?
A Scene is a video chat between you and up to four of your friends that is overlaid on top of your Netflix shows. It’s like hanging out, except you don’t have to put on pants.

How do I start a Scene?
Open a show or movie on Netflix, and click “Start a New Scene” in the Scener sidebar. Much less painful than the Scene your relatives started at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

How do I invite my friends to a Scene?
Every time you start a new Scene, you will see a 4-digit invite code in the Scener sidebar. Simply have your friends go to Scener, and enter your invite code to get started. Look at you – a bunch of Scene kids!

How many people can I have in a Scene?
In this first beta release, Scenes are limited to five total participants. If one of your friends leaves, you won’t be able to fill their spot with a different participant. But if you have that many friends to work with, please share them with the rest of us.

How do I join a Scene in progress?
First, you’ll need to ask your friend for their 4-digit invite code. After that, you can join their Scene by entering their invite code at either Scener, or in the Scener sidebar on the Netflix homepage.

I have an invite code, but I ended up on the Netflix browsing page. How do I get to the Scene my friend invited me to?
Before you enter your invite code, head over to Netflix.com, and make sure that you’re signed in to your Netflix account. Then go to the movie or show episode you’ve been invited to. Yeah, we know…you’ve been signed in to your Netflix account since 2014 – we’re just making sure!

How can we keep the Scene going with the same people and binge more episodes of the show we’re watching?
Episodes are like Pringles – once you start watching, you can’t watch just one. If you’re looking to binge-watch episodes, you’ll need to head to the next episode, and start a new Scene each time an episode ends. We are working on features that allow you to binge-watch shows more efficiently, because the only thing that should ever interrupt a good binge is Netflix’s “Are you still watching?” screen.

Can I turn my camera and mic on/off?
Sure can! Mouse over your video circle, and your video/audio toolbar will appear. We recommend turning off your mic before making fun of your friend for having pizza bagel sauce all over their face.

Can I mute my friends?
You can’t mute your friends. Why would you want to mute your friends? Don’t you like your friends? However, your friends can mute themselves, and we could all learn a thing or two about self-restraint.

Can I expand the circles to make them bigger?
Mouse over your video circle, and click the expand button (looks like an “X” with arrowheads), and your circle will magically transform into a larger rectangle.

Can I use the Snap Camera plug-in with Scener?
Do you want to watch ‘The Princess Switch’ while dressed as a princess? No problem! Scener is compatible with the Snap Camera plug-in. To use it, go to the Snap Camera website, and follow the installation instructions.

I’m using Snap Camera but now my audio is out of sync. What do I do?
We are still in the testing stages of third-party app integration, but are very excited to include tools and apps that will make Scener even more fun! If you’re running into sync issues while using the Snap Camera, try turning it off. If that doesn’t fix your issue, try hitting ‘refresh.’

If I turn the volume down on Netflix, will it lower it for everybody?
Nope! Everybody has different volume preferences, so we allow everyone to set their own volume. Sure beats fighting over the remote, doesn’t it?

I have to go to the bathroom! Can I pause the movie for everyone?
Yes! Scener.tv is a binge-watching democracy. Everyone in your Scene shares equal control of the pause, play, fast-forward, and rewind functions.

Something seems out-of-sync, what do I do?
The browser refresh button is your best friend. Smack that thing, and see if that does the trick. For best results, we recommend that the person with the fastest internet connection host the Scene.

I’m experiencing an issue not addressed here, HALP!
Just pop the game out of your Super Nintendo, and blow into the cartridge. LOL where my 90’s kids at?? But again, just try refreshing your browser. That should do it. Just make sure you don’t lick your browser, as that could mess it up permanently. If you’re still having trouble, we’re here to help at support@scener.tv.
